COMPARISON GUIDE
A complete side-by-side technical comparison — IP ratings, brightness, power, weight, temperature range, mounting options, and pricing. Verified specs from the SV Solutions LUMINA product line.
Quick Decision
Pick Indoor if your wall lives in a controlled-climate space — a sanctuary, conference room, retail interior, lobby, or studio. Pick Outdoor if any portion of the wall will face direct rain, dust, or sunlight — building exteriors, storefront windows facing outward, billboards, plazas, or temporary outdoor events.
Designed for controlled environments
- IP30 protection (dust resistant, not weatherproof)
- 600–800 NITS brightness (optimized for indoor lighting)
- Lighter cabinets (8.81–62 lbs per panel)
- Lower power draw (130 W/m² average)
- Wider pixel-pitch range (0.93mm to 4mm)
Best for: churches, conference rooms, retail interiors, lobbies, studios, control rooms.
Built for weather and sun
- IP65 protection (rain, dust, water jets)
- 6,000 NITS brightness (visible in direct sun)
- Heavy-duty cabinets (68 lbs per panel)
- Higher power for high brightness (750W max per panel)
- Operating temp range: -20°C to +70°C / -4°F to +158°F
Best for: billboards, building exteriors, storefront window displays facing outward, plazas, outdoor events.

All bundles are fully customizable — components can be added or removed to match your project. Pricing includes panels, NovaStar processor, hybrid power+data cabling, mounting/service tools, spare modules, HUB card, power supply, and receiving card.
Decision Framework
Choose Indoor when:
- The wall is fully enclosed — no exposure to rain, snow, or direct sun
- Ambient lighting is controlled — house lights, stage lights, or natural light through skylights only
- Closer viewing distance — your audience sits 7–25 ft from the wall (sanctuaries, conference rooms, lobbies)
- You need finer pixel pitch — only indoor lines offer 0.93mm, 1.5mm, 2.5mm options
- Lower weight is important — wall-mounted in spaces with structural concerns or no rear access
Choose Outdoor when:
- The wall faces direct sun — at any point of the day, at any season
- Weather exposure — rain, snow, dust, or extreme temperatures
- The screen faces outward through a window or wall opening — even if the cabinet body is “inside,” the LED face still gets sun
- Viewing distance is 50+ ft — billboards, plaza signage, building exteriors where 4mm pitch is appropriate
- Brightness requirement above 1,500 NITS — competing with sunlight or bright sky backgrounds
When it’s a gray area:
- Storefront LED inside a window, facing outward: use outdoor-spec panels (6,000 NITS) even though the cabinet body is technically inside — direct sun on the LED face requires outdoor brightness
- Covered patios or atriums with skylights: usually indoor-spec works because no direct sun and no rain
- Open-air event venues with overhead cover: outdoor-spec recommended for IP65 protection against humidity, dust, and accidental water exposure
Common Questions
– Can I install an indoor LED wall outside temporarily, for one event? ▾
Not recommended. Indoor panels are IP30 — even brief exposure to morning dew, light rain, or high humidity can cause shorts. The warranty does not cover damage from outdoor use of indoor panels. If you need temporary outdoor coverage, our LUMINA 960 Outdoor inventory is available for rental.
– Why are outdoor panels nearly 2× the cost? ▾
Outdoor cabinets add several engineering requirements: a fully sealed die-cast aluminum housing, active cooling, UV-resistant front mask, higher-output power supplies (NDB300PS5 vs NDB200PS5), waterproof signal connectors, and the LED chips themselves are higher-output to deliver 6,000 NITS (10× indoor brightness). Combined, outdoor panels typically run 60–80% heavier and 30–40% more expensive per square foot of LED surface.
– Is 4mm pixel pitch available indoor or outdoor only? ▾
Both. LUMINA 960 offers 4mm indoor panels (IP30, 600 NITS) and LUMINA 960 Outdoor offers 4mm outdoor panels (IP65, 6,000 NITS). Indoor 4mm is brightness-optimized for controlled lighting; outdoor 4mm delivers 10× the brightness for direct sun visibility.
– What’s the operating temperature range for outdoor LED? ▾
LUMINA 960 Outdoor operates from -20°C to +70°C (-4°F to +158°F). This covers nearly all US climate zones, from northern winters to southern summer heat. Heat output during operation: max 70°C / 158°F surface, average 35°C / 95°F.
– Do outdoor panels need active cooling or built-in heaters? ▾
Our LUMINA 960 Outdoor 4mm uses a fully sealed die-cast aluminum housing with passive heat sinks and the supplied NDB300PS5 power supply, which is rated for the full -20°C to +70°C range. Hot climates with prolonged sun benefit from this thermal envelope. Cold climates within the rated range run normally without additional heating.
– What IP rating does each SV LED line have? ▾
IP30 — LUMINA Nanolite, LUMINA 500, LUMINA 960 indoor (protected against solid objects 2.5mm+ and incidental water)
IP54 — LUMINA MicroLED 0.93mm COB (dust-protected and splash-resistant)
IP65 — LUMINA 960 Outdoor 4mm (fully dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction)
– Can I service outdoor panels from the back if they’re mounted to a building? ▾
LUMINA 960 Outdoor supports both Full Front Service and Full Back Service — modules, power supplies, and receiving cards can be accessed from whichever side is available. This makes wall-mounted outdoor installations practical (no rear walkway needed) while still supporting truss or freestanding configurations where rear access is preferred.
– What processor comes with outdoor bundles? ▾
LUMINA 960 Outdoor bundles ship with the NovaStar TU20 Pro Wireless LED Playback Processor, which includes Remote LTE for scheduling and content updates from anywhere. This is ideal for storefronts, billboards, and digital signage where the operator isn’t on site daily.
